About BestColdPlunge
We started BestColdPlunge because we were tired of reading "reviews" that were obviously written by people who had never stepped into a cold plunge. You know the ones. They regurgitate spec sheets, slap an affiliate link at the bottom, and call it a day. Nobody talks about what it actually feels like to use these things for months at a time, what breaks, what surprises you, and what is genuinely worth your money.
So we decided to do it ourselves.
BestColdPlunge is a small, independent review site. We buy or receive cold plunges, use them for months, and write about what we find. No brand tells us what to say. No advertiser gets to approve our content before it goes live. If a product has problems, we say so. If something is overpriced, we say that too.
Our goal is simple. We want to help you make a smart purchase without wading through marketing fluff. Cold plunges range widely in price, and the right choice depends entirely on your situation. We are here to give you the honest information you need to figure out which one fits your life.
We are not a huge media company. We are a small team of people who genuinely use cold plunges every week and care about getting this right. If we mess something up, tell us. We will fix it.
Our Team
Our team of reviewers includes people with backgrounds in fitness, health and wellness writing, and product testing. We are passionate cold plunge users ourselves, which means we bring firsthand experience to every review we publish.
On the testing side, our reviewers spend time in freezing water logging temperatures and taking notes on build quality so you do not have to guess what a product is really like. On the editorial side, our writers dig through research papers to fact check health claims and make sure we are not overstating what cold plunges can actually do. There is a lot of hype in this space, and we work hard to separate what the research supports from what is just wishful thinking.
How We Test
We take testing seriously because we know you are spending real money based on what we write. Every product on this site goes through the same rigorous process before we publish a word about it. There are no weekend reviews here and no first impressions dressed up as full evaluations.
Here is what our process looks like.
Purchase or Receive the Product
We buy most products with our own money, directly from the manufacturer. Some brands send us products for testing, and we always disclose which is which in our reviews. Whether we paid for it or not has zero impact on our evaluation. A product that was sent to us gets the same scrutiny as one we bought. We have given negative reviews to products we received for free, and we have given top marks to things we paid full price for.
Extended Firsthand Testing
This is the part that takes the most time, and it is the part most other review sites skip entirely. We test each product extensively over an extended period before publishing. This long testing window lets us catch things you would never see in a week. How does the filtration hold up over time? Does the insulation degrade? Do seals start leaking after regular use? You can only answer those questions with extended testing.
Temperature Logging with Calibrated Thermometers
We do not trust the included temperature displays on these products. We use our own calibrated digital thermometers to independently verify water temperatures at startup, after 1 hour, after 4 hours, and after 24 hours. For chiller models, we test how long it takes to reach the advertised minimum temperature from a room temperature fill. For ice based models, we measure how quickly the water warms back up after adding a standardized amount of ice.
Build Quality Inspection and Durability Tracking
We inspect every product thoroughly on arrival and document its condition. Then we check again periodically throughout our testing period. We photograph any wear, cracking, fading, staining, or material degradation. We test drain mechanisms, check seals for leaks, and assess how well surfaces hold up to regular cleaning. We also track any warranty claims or customer service interactions.
Multiple Testers for Different Body Types and Experience Levels
One person's perspective is not enough. We use testers with different heights, weights, and experience levels to make sure our reviews reflect a range of perspectives. A tub that feels spacious for a shorter person might feel cramped for someone much taller. A product that is easy for an experienced cold plunger might be intimidating for a beginner. We try to capture all of that.
Real Cost Tracking Including Electricity, Ice, and Maintenance
The purchase price is only part of the story. We track the actual ongoing costs of each product. For chiller models, we measure electricity usage with a kill a watt meter and calculate monthly operating costs. For ice based models, we track how much ice you need per session and what that costs over time. We also factor in water treatment chemicals, replacement filters, and any other maintenance expenses. When we quote a total cost of ownership, it is based on real data, not estimates.
Our Rating System
We rate every product on a 10 point scale. We evaluate five categories (temperature performance, build quality, ease of use, maintenance, and value) and combine them into an overall score. Here is what the ranges mean.
9.0 to 9.5 is exceptional. These are the best products in their category with only minor drawbacks. We do not give anything above a 9.5 because no product is perfect. If something scored a 10, that would mean it has zero flaws, zero room for improvement, and works perfectly for every single person. That product does not exist. A 9.5 means we would enthusiastically recommend it to almost anyone who fits the target audience.
8.0 to 8.9 is very good. Products in this range do most things well and are worth buying for the right person. They have some real weaknesses, but the strengths outweigh them. Most of our recommended products fall in this range.
7.0 to 7.9 is decent. These products work and they are not bad, but there are usually better options at a similar price. We might recommend them in specific situations but not as a general pick.
6.0 to 6.9 is below average. Products here have significant issues that are hard to overlook. We would generally steer you toward something else.
Below 6.0 means we would not recommend the product. We rarely publish reviews for products that score this low because we would rather spend our time testing things that are worth your attention. If something does land here, there is a good reason.
One thing worth noting. We do not inflate our scores. You will not see a wall of 9+ ratings on this site. When everything is rated "amazing," nothing is. Our scores mean something because we are willing to give an honest 7 when other sites would slap an 8.5 on it and collect the affiliate commission.
Affiliate Disclosure
We believe in being completely upfront about how we make money. BestColdPlunge earns revenue through affiliate commissions. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase, we may receive a commission from the brand. This is how we fund the site, buy products, and keep the lights on.
Here are the specifics.
We participate in direct affiliate programs with the brands we review. That means our partnerships are directly with companies like Plunge, Ice Barrel, The Cold Pod, Sun Home Saunas, and Coldture. We do not use Amazon affiliate links. Our relationships are with the manufacturers themselves.
Commissions never influence our rankings or review scores. Period. This is not a throwaway line. We have ranked products lower even when they offered us higher commission rates. We have given top placement to products with smaller commissions because they genuinely performed better. If we let money dictate our rankings, this site would be worthless to you, and we know that.
We purchase most products with our own money. The majority of cold plunges we test were bought at full retail price, just like you would buy them. Some brands have provided products for testing at no cost. When that happens, we always disclose it clearly in the review. Receiving a free product does not guarantee a positive review. It just means we did not have to pay for it.
Every affiliate link on this site is clearly marked. You will never click a link without knowing it is an affiliate link. We use "nofollow" and "sponsored" tags on all affiliate links as required by search engine guidelines and FTC regulations.
If you want to support us, using our links is the best way to do it. It does not cost you anything extra. The price is the same whether you use our link or go directly to the brand's website. But if you would rather not use our links, that is completely fine. We would rather you trust our content than feel pressured to click anything.
